A New 2% Deposit Home Loan for Apprentices, Graduates & Skilled Workers in WA

Breaking into the property market can feel out of reach when you’re early in your career. Saving a large deposit, paying Lenders Mortgage Insurance, and juggling rising living costs can delay home ownership for years.

That’s why the newly launched Skilled Start Home Loan is such an exciting opportunity for Western Australians.

This initiative is designed to help apprentices, graduates, tradespeople and skilled workers purchase their first home sooner, with fewer barriers.

What is the Skilled Start Home Loan?

The Skilled Start Home Loan is a specialised product offering:

  • Just a 2% deposit

  • No Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI)

  • Lower mortgage repayments through a discounted variable rate

  • Free financial coaching to support long-term financial wellbeing

The loan is offered through Keystart, whose mission is to help more Western Australians into affordable home ownership.

Who can apply?

You may be eligible if, within the last five years, you have:

  • Started or completed a formal apprenticeship in any industry

  • Worked as a skilled worker in a building or construction occupation

  • Graduated with a Certificate III or higher, including Certificate IV, Diploma, Bachelor degree or above

  • Eligible occupations and qualifications are assessed against an approved skilled occupations list.

Property price limits

The Skilled Start Home Loan can be used to purchase:

  • New, off-the-plan or under construction homes up to $750,000

  • Established homes up to $700,000

Standard income limits apply.

Why this matters

This initiative recognises that skilled workers and graduates are essential to WA’s future — and that waiting years to save a large deposit can hold them back from building financial security.

With a lower deposit, no LMI, and financial coaching included, the Skilled Start Home Loan helps buyers get into the market earlier and build strong money habits from day one.
